Side control

A family of chest-to-chest and hip-control pins with many valid alignments.

How to read it

What this entry helps you see

Side control is not one frozen shape. The top player connects pressure to head, shoulders, hips, or near-side space according to the next task. The bottom player protects alignment, builds frames, and creates a path for hip movement.

Study cues

  1. For top, control the line needed for the next transition
  2. For bottom, protect neck and inside space first
  3. Move from structure rather than explosive pushing

Common errors

  1. Top player chasing pressure without controlling rotation
  2. Bottom player bench-pressing with open elbows
  3. Starting an escape before creating a frame
