Double leg takedown

A takedown that changes levels and connects to both legs to bring an opponent down.

How to read it

What this entry helps you see

The double leg changes levels, connects to both legs, and uses a drive or a turn to take the opponent to the mat. Setup and level change matter more than raw speed. Finish in a way that protects both your partner and your own posture on the landing.

Key steps

  1. Set up with grips or a feint to create a reaction.
  2. Change levels by bending your knees and keeping your posture upright.
  3. Step deep between the partner feet as you connect to both legs.
  4. Bring your shoulder to the midsection and lock your hands behind the knees.
  5. Drive forward or turn a corner to guide the partner down.
  6. Follow to a controlled top position, protecting your own head and neck.

Study cues

  1. Change levels by bending the knees, not the back
  2. Penetrate with a deep step between the feet
  3. Connect to both legs before driving or turning

Common errors

  1. Bending at the waist instead of the knees
  2. Reaching for the legs from too far away
  3. Driving without controlling the head or hips
