Kuzushi and off-balancing

Changing structure, weight, or timing before committing to an entry.

How to read it

What this entry helps you see

Kuzushi is used here as a practical lens: make the opponent adjust before asking a technique to carry the whole exchange. The adjustment may come from direction, timing, posture change, grip tension, or a combination.

Study cues

  1. Create a visible adjustment before entering
  2. Use more than one direction
  3. Notice where the opponent must post or step

Common errors

  1. Trying to finish through stable posture
  2. Pulling in one direction without a follow-up
  3. Confusing motion with meaningful displacement
