Toreando pass
A timing and angle pass that redirects the legs and moves around them.
How to read it
What this entry helps you see
The toreando pass controls both legs at the shins or pants, steers them to one side, and moves your body to the open space. It relies on timing and footwork rather than pressure. Keep contact as you arrive so the guard player cannot reconnect.
Key steps
- Grip both of the partner shins or pant legs and push them down to the mat.
- Steer the legs to one side to open the hip.
- Step your lead foot to the open angle while keeping the legs pinned.
- Release the legs only as your chest connects to the near hip or ribs.
- Settle into side control and control the head and near arm.
Study cues
- Pin both legs down and to one side
- Move your feet to the open angle rather than around the legs
- Establish contact on the hip before releasing the legs
Common errors
- Steering the legs without pinning them down
- Running around the legs instead of stepping to the angle
- Releasing the grips before controlling the hip
