Armbar from mount

A straight arm lock taken by isolating an arm and stepping a leg over the head.

How to read it

What this entry helps you see

The armbar from mount isolates one arm, then rotates your hips to face the trapped shoulder as you step over the head. Control of the arm and a slow extension matter more than speed. It is a controlled joint lock, applied with attention to the tap.

Key steps

  1. From mount, trap one arm and climb to a higher mount near the armpits.
  2. Slide one hand under the trapped arm and turn your hips toward that shoulder.
  3. Step your front foot near the partner hip and swing the other leg over the head.
  4. Sit down close to the shoulder while keeping the arm trapped, thumb up.
  5. Pinch your knees and lift your hips slowly to extend the elbow.
  6. Release the moment your partner taps.

Study cues

  1. Isolate the arm and pin it to your chest
  2. Move to a high mount before stepping over
  3. Sit close to the shoulder and lower your hips as you extend

Common errors

  1. Losing the arm while switching hips
  2. Leaning back before the leg clears the head
  3. Extending suddenly instead of lifting the hips slowly
